We are an action-driven, interdisciplinary team. Creativity and passion allow us to drive change through strategic impact.
Our projects
The Sea Forests at the End of the World
Protecting 86% of kelp forests in Argentina.
One year ago, we embarked on a mission to protect the southernmost kelp forests in the world. These underwater forests, located primarily along the coastlines of Santa Cruz and Tierra del Fuego, are among the most pristine ecosystems on Earth. In a world where marine forests have declined by 40% in the last 50 years, the importance of these coasts cannot be overstated.
Learn why the Patagonian Sea holds a unique opportunity for the conservation of its underwater forests and what we are doing to protect them.
The Global Salmon Farming Resistance
Leading a worldwide alliance to fight open-net salmon farming.
Our mission is to free the ocean from open-net salmon farming. Salmon farms are considered one of the most high-risk types of aquaculture worldwide. Open nets, where millions of salmon are raised, allow waste products, pathogens, and pollutants to flow freely, destroying marine ecosystems. Ocean dead zones, toxic algae blooms, plastic pollution and biodiversity loss are just some of the issues caused by this industry wherever it operates. However, communities have been rising up for years, and when their voices unite, change begins to happen.
Discover how the GSFR is connecting people and organizations worldwide and bringing salmon farms out of the ocean through collaboration and communication.
Guardians of the Sea
Towards the conservation of sharks in Argentina.
Our goal is to gather information and efforts to apply the best strategies for the conservation of sharks in the Patagonian Sea. These millenary creatures play a crucial role in maintaining the ocean's balance, but they are in danger. While 24% of chondrichthyan species face global extinction, similar alarm bells are ringing in Argentina. The region’s vast variety of endemic species could disappear forever, drastically impacting the ecosystems that depend on them. Their decline would have a significant impact on the marine ecosystem due to their important ecological role as top predators.
Join us in a race against time to shift the fate of sharks in Argentina as we advocate for policy changes to protect them in the long term.
Regenerative Ocean Farming
Merging the economics of development and nature.
Driven by the goal of promoting regenerative ocean farming, over the next few years, we will implement Argentina’s first scientific pilot project for ocean farming in the coastal town of Puerto San Julian, Santa Cruz province. We believe it is crucial to tackle one of the most profound challenges of our time: preventing the massive loss of biodiversity while enhancing the well-being of both human and non-human communities. This project aims to promote regenerative economic, social, and environmental well-being by supporting public policies that ensure kelp forest conservation, regulate wild kelp extraction, and establish small- and medium-scale regenerative ocean farming models.
How can we pursue conservation goals, protect the ocean, and provide opportunities for both people and the sea? Follow us on this quest.
